This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Timber Construction Company in Upper Bavaria Dec”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.
A new owner has been found for an insolvent timber construction company in Upper Bavaria within a very short time. The firm was recently managing numerous projects across several districts, including the new construction of a school. These are the consequences of the insolvency for customers.
The Peiting-based company "Holz Bau Wagen" recently filed for insolvency. A swift solution was found for the approximately 50 employees: the company is being taken over by the Geiger Group based in Oberstdorf. The largest affected project is the new construction of the Waldorf school in Weilheim.
The companies "Holz Bau Wagen GmbH" and the associated "HBW Holding GmbH" had been active in the market for over ten years. They specialize in carpentry and timber construction work, engineered timber construction, and turnkey services as a general contractor.
According to a press release, the Weilheim district court opened insolvency proceedings over the assets of both companies at the end of March and appointed lawyers Mirko Möllen and Ivo-Meinert Willrodt from "Pluta Rechtsanwalts GmbH" as insolvency administrators. Both had already been acting as provisional administrators since the end of February.
“The new contracts were negotiated ‘within just four weeks’. ‘All jobs will be preserved,’ said lawyer Mirko Möllen.
"The company had to file for insolvency due to liquidity problems," said a spokesperson for the insolvency administrator in response to our newspaper's inquiry, without going into further detail. According to the online business portal "North Data," liabilities totaled 2.1 million euros at the end of 2024.
The business operations of "Holz Bau Wagen" were continued during the insolvency proceedings. At the same time, it was possible to successfully conclude an investor process "under considerable time pressure," the spokesperson said. The lawyers sold the two business operations as part of two transfer restructurings to the Geiger Group headquartered in Oberstdorf. The Allgäu-based group is taking over all approximately 50 employees and all assets and machinery owned by HBW Holding GmbH.
"The responsible parties have already signed both purchase contracts," the spokesperson said. The contracts were "negotiated within just four weeks." "All jobs will be preserved," lawyer Mirko Möllen is quoted in a statement. He also stated that "the best possible result" had been achieved for the creditors. The company's new name will be "Geiger Holzsystembau Niederlassung Peiting" (Geiger Timber Systems Construction Branch Peiting).
“I am very pleased about the new perspective for our team,” Pascal Hoffer is quoted in a press release. The former managing director of “Holz Bau Wagen” now serves as the branch manager in Peiting.
Customer Contracts Under Review
The Peiting-based company realized numerous projects in recent years such as kindergartens, schools, and residential buildings in the region, Claudia Schöwe, corporate spokesperson for the Geiger Group, informed our newspaper. The currently largest project in the district is the new construction of the Waldorf school in Weilheim.
"In the course of the takeover, we were in constant close communication with all project participants, including the financing bank," said Schöwe. The goal is "to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. Based on the current status, we are confident that we will reach a positive solution for all parties in the short term." As reported, the new construction of the school at Narbonner Ring had been repeatedly delayed in recent years due to various challenges.
What does the restructuring mean for other customers? "The contracts are currently being reviewed and, if possible, continued," says Schöwe. "The framework conditions are being examined. We cannot comment on details at this time." In principle, the Peiting company is "well utilized," and furthermore, the Geiger Group has ongoing orders in the timber systems construction sector.
"We are currently examining the feasibility of individual planned projects in detail," said Schöwe. "In doing so, we clearly pursue the goal of realizing all projects as quickly and reliably as possible."
The Geiger Group, headquartered in Oberstdorf, describes itself as "a versatile corporate group" with around 4,000 employees at approximately 100 locations in Germany and Europe, with an annual turnover stated as 850 million euros. In the timber systems construction sector, the group also maintains locations in Wangen and Blaustein.
The Industrial Union for Construction, Agriculture and Environment (IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt) was not involved in the proceedings, reported Alois Keller, deputy regional manager for Bavaria, in response to our newspaper's inquiry. There had been no contact with the insolvent company, and with the Geiger Group there was at least "loose contact." In principle, he assessed the situation on the timber construction market as currently good. Demand is increasing, also because customers value sustainable building materials and government funding is better than in the solid construction segment.
