This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Waste Overflows at TPS 3R Pulogebang, Residents “, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.
Jakarta – A pile of garbage at a waste processing station in East Jakarta, which has grown to shoulder height, has raised concerns among residents about the spread of various diseases.
“Garbage like this makes us worried, because it’s dirty, smelly, and can cause diseases, like rabies, diarrhea, or viruses and so on,” said one area resident, Jayadi (38) in Pulogebang, East Jakarta, on Thursday.
According to him, the harsh smell of the garbage is very disturbing for residents and passersby.
“The smell is strong, I’m afraid it will become a source of disease. There are lots of flies, and sometimes there are rats. Children or the elderly are susceptible to getting sick if these conditions continue without treatment.”
He said the condition of the garbage pile at the site has been ongoing for a long time. Furthermore, the garbage situation at this location has become more concerning since restrictions were imposed on the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantargebang in Bekasi, West Java.
“Therefore, no trucks have come to transport it, so there has been a lot of time, it hasn’t been moved for a long time, and now there is a lot again,” said Jayadi.
He also asked the DKI Jakarta provincial government to immediately seek a real solution to handle the waste problem in his neighborhood.
“Complaints submitted by residents must be followed up. There must be real action, also long-term, it’s difficult regarding this garbage,” said Jayadi.
Similarly, a passing motorcycle rider, Sunaryo (49), admitted he was worried about the garbage condition that the waste management had failed to control.
“It must be followed up immediately. I hope the garbage is transported by the officers so there are no more garbage piles,” said Sunaryo.
He also admitted feeling uncomfortable whenever he passed the road due to the disturbing smell of the garbage.
“If I pass through it, I have to close my nose again, blow the smell mask, it’s called a lot like that,” said Sunaryo.
According to observations, there was a lot of garbage next to the TPS 3R Pulogebang building. Scattered garbage conditions were also seen on the other side.
A number of motorcycle riders who passed noted they were uncomfortable. They closed their noses due to the smell of rotting garbage.
Government Encourages Waste Sorting
Previously, the East Jakarta City Government encouraged waste sorting from its source, namely households, to reduce the burden of waste disposal at TPST Bantargebang.
“The government encourages people to start reducing the volume of waste and conducting sorting from the source, namely households, to organize disposal at TPST Bantargebang,” said East Jakarta Mayor M. Anwar at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office, on Tuesday, April 7.
He said his party collaborated with the Plastic Recycling Center (PDUP) in Ciracas to manage inorganic waste.
In addition, the role of the Waste Bank Task Force Unit (Satgas) in each village, which was formed through a letter from the Mayor Number e-0005/SE/2026, has been improved.
The task force's duty is to coordinate the shipment of inorganic waste from the unit bank to PDUP Ciracas, as well as report activities through the provided internet system.
