【Our Report】Cross-strait Mini Three Links cargo and passenger transport has been temporarily suspended for over a year due to the pandemic. Recently, local construction companies have turned to Southeast Asian countries for granite stone imports. Although freight and material costs are slightly higher than those from Mainland China, industry insiders say the quality of stone from Southeast Asia is also good, with a color similar to Matsu's local granite.

In earlier years, most of the stone needed for the renovation of traditional houses in the Matsu area was imported from Mainland China through the Mini Three Links channel, benefiting from geographical proximity and price advantages. In recent years, the pandemic has disrupted cross-strait Mini Three Links cargo and passenger transport, forcing local construction companies to seek stone imports from Southeast Asia. It is understood that most of this stone comes from Vietnam, shipped by container to Keelung and then transshipped to Matsu, significantly increasing transportation costs.

Industry insiders say that Vietnamese stone is slightly more expensive per unit than that from Mainland China, and freight costs are also higher. However, the quality of the granite is not inferior to that from Mainland China, and it offers better uniformity. The stone has lower iron content, making it less prone to discoloration over time. Overall, imported stone from Southeast Asia is a good choice for traditional building renovations.
