How strong is powerful double-sided tape?
Most powerful double-sided tapes can stably support a load of about 1 kg, and powerful ones can handle up to about 3 kg. Compared to regular double-sided tape, they have higher adhesive strength and durability and can be used for a wide range of applications. They can be installed easily without using screws or nails, making them convenient for rental housing where you don't want to damage the walls.
They are also suitable for applications requiring durability, such as fixing furniture like hooks and storage racks, securing small items in cars, repairing around license plates, and installing outdoor signs.
They will also be useful in places requiring water resistance, such as towel racks in bathrooms or installing small items in kitchens.
On the other hand, regular double-sided tape is suitable for attaching lightweight objects of 50–300g. It can be used for attaching paper, thin plastic, small posters, etc., but for items with a certain weight, it is recommended to use powerful double-sided tape.
Powerful double-sided tape requires waiting about 24 hours for full strength to develop, and it is said to exhibit only about 30% or less of its performance if used immediately after application. After applying, press firmly from above and leave it without attaching anything until the adhesive conforms to the surface for maximum performance.

How to Choose Powerful Double-Sided Tape
We introduce "3 key points" you should definitely check when choosing powerful double-sided tape.
1. Choose products with a thickness of 1mm or more and an acrylic-based adhesive for high adhesive strength.
If you seek strong adhesive power, choose products with a thickness of 1mm or more and an acrylic-based adhesive. In our adhesive strength verification, products meeting these conditions withstood weights up to 3kg.
A thickness of 1mm or more has the advantage of filling in surface irregularities for firm adhesion. It should be compatible with a wide range of materials like metal, wood, and plastic. Also, having cushioning properties that absorb vibration and shock helps maintain strong adhesive power while making the bonded surface less prone to peeling.
Adhesive types include acrylic, rubber, silicone, and PU gel. Acrylic types, due to their molecular structure, easily form chemical bonds with the adhered surface, exhibiting very high adhesive strength. They excel in heat, cold, water, and UV resistance, and tend to be strong against extreme temperature and humidity changes. They have little aging degradation, and adhesive strength is less likely to weaken even with long-term use.
For fixing posters/paper or short-term use, rubber-based adhesives, which are flexible and have strong initial tack, are recommended.
For use in high-temperature environments or bonding special materials like fluororesin, silicone-based adhesives, usable even above 200°C, become an option.
For fixing car or appliance parts, check PU gel-based adhesives, which are highly flexible and resistant to shock and vibration.
Even among products with a thickness of 1mm or more and acrylic-based adhesive, it's important to choose according to the material being bonded. In our verification, when checking adhesive strength by attaching powerful double-sided tape to metal parts, we found that the number of products able to withstand a 3kg weight decreased in the order: metal > plastic > glass > wood.
For some products, the published compatible materials did not correlate with the results, so please choose a product suitable for your purpose based on this verification’s results.

Furthermore, in heat and cold resistance tests, some products showed lower load-bearing capacity at high temperatures compared to room temperature. This is thought to be due to a combination of physical and chemical factors such as adhesive softening/degradation, substrate deformation, surface changes, and humidity effects.
Among these, some rubber-based or PU-based substrates may lose adhesive strength, so it’s safer to avoid them.
Also, in the water resistance verification, the load-bearing capacity of many products decreased. Especially for products not designed for water, it's thought that a thin film of water formed between the adhesive and the surface, and hydrolysis of the adhesive occurred, reducing adhesive strength.
On the other hand, products designed for water or those with water-resistant gel materials are less likely to absorb moisture and have minimal swelling or deformation, so adhesive strength is less likely to drop even when submerged.
If attaching a smartphone stand to a car dashboard, check heat resistance. Especially in summer, the interior gets quite hot from sunlight, so using a product with high heat resistance can prevent degradation from heat.
For installation, a load-bearing capacity of 0.5kg or more is required. To firmly fix a metal stand, choose a powerful double-sided tape with a load-bearing capacity of 1kg or more. Adhesive strength varies by material, so check the compatible materials when purchasing.

In the test, we attached a metal hook to a metal plate using each product, then removed it and checked the amount of adhesive residue by sprinkling blue sand. As a result, almost no adhesive remained, and it came off cleanly.
No clear trend emerged for ease of removal, so it’s recommended to choose products that came off cleanly in MyBest’s verification.
Also, the amount of adhesive residue differs depending on the material. Smooth materials like plastic and glass tend to leave less adhesive residue. On the other hand, metal is a material where adhesive strength is maximized, and wood has surface irregularities, so adhesive residue is more likely.
That said, because powerful double-sided tape has strong adhesive power, it is common for adhesive to remain after removal.

When using in rental properties, note that many products are basically not compatible with wallpaper. Powerful double-sided tape risks damaging wallpaper when removed. If you really want to use it, choose low-tack tape or easily removable hooks, and test on an inconspicuous area first.
