Importers and project buyers sourcing ceramic or porcelain tiles from China or India for the Omani market face new anti-dumping duties effective May 29. This will increase landed costs for these products for at least five years. Consider verifying final customs costs and exploring alternative sourcing regions or local suppliers to mitigate price volatility and supply chain risk.

Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) has announced the enforcement of anti-dumping duties on imports of ceramic and porcelain tiles originating from or exported by China and India, effective May 29. The decision, made under the GCC's Unified Law on Anti-Dumping, follows a 12-month investigation initiated after complaints from the Gulf's tile industry. The duties are imposed for a five-year period. Authorities state the measure aims to protect the local market from price distortions, enhance the competitiveness of local manufacturers, and ensure a fair trading environment. Market control bodies are monitoring implementation and price stability.

Oman will enforce anti-dumping duties on all imports of ceramic and porcelain tiles from China and India, effective from May 29.

The decision, announced by Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP), applies at all customs ports in the sultanate and is made under the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) Unified Law on Anti-Dumping, Countervailing and Safeguard Measures.

The action follows a complaint from the Gulf's ceramic and porcelain tile industry regarding alleged dumping. A GCC technical office conducted a comprehensive investigation over more than 12 months.

The findings led the GCC's Permanent Committee for Combating Harmful Practices in International Trade and the Industrial Cooperation Committee to issue a final decision to impose the duties for a period of five years.

Officials stated the duties are essential to protect the local market from price distortions caused by products entering at unfair prices, to foster a fair competitive environment, and to protect national industries. The measure is expected to enhance the competitiveness of local manufacturers, improve product quality, and expand production capacity.

The Public Authority for Consumer Protection confirmed it is actively monitoring the implementation, tracking prices of imported tiles, and conducting inspection campaigns at stores to ensure price stability. The authority warned it will take legal action against any violations.

Importers sourcing ceramic or porcelain tiles from China and India for the Omani market must factor in new anti-dumping duties effective May 29. This will increase landed costs and may affect project pricing and supply timelines. Consider verifying the exact duty rates with customs brokers and exploring potential diversification of sourcing to mitigate this five-year trade barrier. Monitor for possible similar measures in other GCC member states.

Oman will enforce anti-dumping duties on ceramic and porcelain tile imports from China and India, effective May 29, at all customs ports across the sultanate. The decision is based on the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) Unified Law on Anti-Dumping, Countervailing and Safeguard Measures.

It follows a comprehensive, 12-month investigation by the GCC General Secretariat, initiated after complaints from the regional tile industry regarding alleged dumping of products from these two countries into GCC markets. The final decision to impose the duties for five years was issued by the GCC's Permanent Committee and Industrial Cooperation Committee.

The measures are intended to foster a fair trading environment and protect national industries from injurious dumping practices. Officials state the duties are essential to prevent price distortions caused by products entering at unfair prices that do not reflect true production costs.

The Public Authority for Consumer Protection is actively monitoring implementation, tracking prices of imported tiles, and conducting inspection campaigns at stores to ensure market price stability. The authority has warned it will take legal action against any violators of the new regulations.
