[Italy] Marmo Arredo’s Excellent Quartz

Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Marmo Arredo’s Excellent Quartz”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

Marmo Arredo, a leading Italian company in the processing of natural stone, marble, granite, and composite materials, acquired the German plant producing quartz agglomerate slabs in 2010. This significant investment further refined its expertise and ability to propose exclusive solutions in the most widely used composite material for kitchens. It marks an important step in a journey begun by Luigi Scapin and his sons Vincenzo, Gianni, and Romeo in the 1970s with Scamar, specialized in stone processing for construction, and continued with the founding of Marmo Arredo, which expanded its know-how in transforming new technological materials for the more demanding sectors of furnishings and design.

“In this evolution, we have made continuous investments in machinery, developed patents that have made our quartz increasingly interesting for the sector, and invested in new plants,” explains Marco Scapin, art director of Marmo Arredo and third generation of the Scapin family.

In 2006, for example, due to the explosion in demand for high-thickness countertops, Eulithe® was born, a company producing expanded polyurethane to be used as a support structure for lightweight worktops.

“80% of the energy used for producing quartz slabs in the German plant is obtained through renewable energy sources like wind power,” specifies Marco Scapin. “Attention to the environment and health are indeed our priorities in the production of quartz countertops, which, due to their very composition, offer high performance characteristics from a hygiene standpoint, as well as functionally and aesthetically.”

The high resistance of quartz countertops to impact, stains, scratches, and acids is combined with high hygienic performance precisely because of the very nature of the quartz surface—smooth, non-porous, and therefore non-absorbent.

“Guaranteed and certified for direct food contact, our quartz is also a stable composite, worked ‘in full paste’—without surface decorations—obtained from mixing silica sand or pure quartz (92%) with structural polyester resin (7%) and UV-stabilized colored pigments (1%),” continues Marco Scapin. “The type of patented composition and processing therefore make quartz surfaces ideal for creating worktops for kitchens, for floors and wall coverings, for tops and sinks in bathroom spaces in residential environments and contract spaces like restaurants, bars, offices, and commercial spaces.”

INVISIBLE LINE®, THE SEAMLESS COUNTERTOP

As mentioned, the propensity for evolution, which has always been part of Marmo Arredo's "DNA," has led the company to create unique patents, exponentially improving the performance of quartz countertops. In addition to Eulithe®, Invisible Line® certainly deserves mention, which allows for the creation of quartz worktops longer than 3 meters without any visible joints. Thanks to extreme care in optimizing details, Marmo Arredo offers designers and end clients the possibility to create large, continuous countertops without visible seams. This processing, mainly suitable for quartz agglomerates, is ideal for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, counters, and large tables.

“Invisible Line® is our response to the trend towards maximum cleanliness and integration of elements in a kitchen worktop,” explains Scapin again. “In this direction, we have also developed together with Schock® a technique for inset sink installation where no joint is visible. An achievement valid both for the aesthetic result and for aspects related to hygiene and maintenance.”
