Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “The World of Stone Slabs”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

The world of stone countertops is a broad category of surfaces ranging from natural stone to quartz agglomerates, porcelain stoneware, and sintered stone. It's easy to say "stone worktops," but it's necessary to distinguish between the different qualities of surfaces.

The world of stone slabs indeed goes from pure stone in its natural state to various types of composite surfaces, namely quartz agglomerates, ultra-compact surfaces, porcelain stoneware, and sintered stone. These differ from each other precisely in the components that constitute them. Below is a mini-review where you can also appreciate new products and previews that some well-known companies are presenting at the 2025 editions of Cersaie, Marmomac, Sicam, and Habitat Valencia.

QUARTZFORMS®: The Sustainable Mineral Surface Ecotone™

Among the new products from Quartzforms® – a brand of the Scapin Group – are the sustainable mineral surfaces Ecotone™, which will also be presented at Marmomac 2025. Made with recycled components, resin derived from bio-compound, and crystalline silica content below 5%, the Ecotone™ range is presented at the Verona Marmomac fair with the new Madreterra series, composed of 100% recycled inert materials from quarry waste, free of added quartz, and with a reduced presence of crystalline silica.

In addition to Madreterra, the 4 new Ecotone New Era finishes are noteworthy, with an eco-chic look like Flamingo (pictured at the top), the pinnacle of sustainable innovation, in pink color with subtle veining, as well as Avalon, Sienna, and Sunrise.

ANTOLINI: Precious and Majestic Natural Stone

The natural stones in the Antolini range are ideal for interior projects and for creating kitchen countertops and cladding. Some more delicate qualities, especially for use as worktops, can be more susceptible to attacks when in contact with organic substances, but even in this case, there is a solution. To overcome this problem, Antolini has developed the AzerocarePlus process, capable of protecting even the surfaces most subject to potential wear, such as Noirblanc or Bianco Lasa (in the gallery).

ATLAS CONCORDE: Porcelain Stoneware for Epic Scenarios

With the Marvel Epic series, Atlas Concorde proposes a collection inspired by seven precious natural stones. Each slab is scenic and capable of transforming a space into a visual experience. Marvel Epic is not an isolated collection but is conceived to dialogue with the rest of the Atlas Concorde range. It allows for the creation of effective material mixes with woods, concretes, stones, or elegant total looks in marble, offering compositional freedom and tailor-made solutions for every project.

DEKTON®: The Ultra-Compact Pietra Edition

Pietra Edition by Dekton® by Cosentino is inspired by the best-known stones of the Mediterranean, the result of the vision and collaboration with designer and architect Daniel Germani. The designs of the ultra-compact and carbon neutral Dekton® slabs in the Pietra Edition series recapture the surface details of the classic stones that inspire them: travertine, Piasentina, Ceppo Di Gré, Campaspero, and Crema Marfil marble. The Pietra Edition series is expressed in 6 designs: Adia, Ava, Nebu, Polar, Sandik, and Trevi. Thanks to the brand's TSP (Technology of Sinterized Particles), Dekton slabs – composed of glass, quartz, porcelain, and inorganic pigments – guarantee worktops with resistance and durability properties significantly superior to natural stones.

LAMINAM: Precious New Products

The two new series presented at Cersaie are called Rare and KiNoBi, along with three new finishes; the new creations were hosted in a stand designed by Stefano Belingardi Architects studio. In particular, Rare references natural elements to give life to a new generation of surfaces with warm and enveloping tones. Among the various Rare finishes, Taj Mahal stands out, interpreting the natural stone of the same name to create kitchen worktops and cladding of great elegance, and the Ceppo di Gré.
