[France Ardennes] Commerce: A New Gedimat Store Opens in the Ardennes

Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Commerce: A New Gedimat Store Opens in the Arden”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

Stéphane Marchionni, the owner of Gedimat La Frontière, is taking over the former Point P location.

The former Point P store in Fumay is becoming a Gedimat.

"Gedimat has the strength. They deserve credit. We're used to going to them, it's clearly better. Point P? They let it die." These words, from Christophe Gerbeau, a specialist in masonry and structural work in Haybes, say everything about the change taking place at the entrance to Fumay, on Bauduin-Petit street, coming from Vireux-Molhain.

The Signs Are Replaced

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the old orange and white signs gave way to new red letters on a grey background. Point P, which did not wish to comment, becomes Gedimat La Frontière.

"We have had a store in Givet for two and a half years and it's going well, near the border. Here in Fumay, we will also be near the border. We are continuing our expansion in the 'Pointe' area, we are reopening this May 7, 2025," smiles Stéphane Marchionni, president of Gedimat La Frontière, who makes the sale of construction materials his number one asset.

“From Foundation to Finishes”

A question arises with this reopening: what will change? "The stock. For the rest, it will take a little time for an immediate change because we will also expand the product ranges. In six months, we will have a larger team. We will also have a new hardware section. Not to mention that we will offer a terrace product line. Finally, deliveries will be possible. In fact, in summary, we take care of everything from the foundation to the finishes," describes the manager.

On the employment side, "we were three at the beginning of Gedimat in Givet. Now, we are thirteen," confides Stéphane Marchionni. Two former employees have been rehired for this new venture.

Another detail, provided by the boss, who has been part of the Gedimat group for fifteen years: "In this store, both private individuals and professionals are targeted. In Givet, the split between these customer types is 50/50."

Before a buyer was officially announced, I was a little scared. Afterward, I was relieved.

Professionals, therefore, are already rubbing their hands with anticipation. "Before a buyer was officially announced, I was a little scared. Afterward, I was relieved. Given what Gedimat has done in Givet, there was potential in Fumay because they have a good vision for the building trade," confides Franck Scopelliti, a specialist in masonry and renovations in Haybes, who has been operating in the 'Pointe' area since 2004.

He points out that "Point P had a big corporate mentality regarding supply. I went there, it's true, mainly to Point P. But here, the management is more autonomous regarding stock. It can only be beneficial."

"We have been working in the 'Pointe' for 25 years," describes Christophe Gerbeau. "This new location will change our daily lives enormously, if only in terms of mileage costs to go and get supplies. And even if we try to go everywhere, the budget is the deciding factor, it's inevitable. Especially since the construction sector has taken a hit."

In the meantime, the reopening of this Fumay premises comes at the perfect time for Stéphane Marchionni. "With the arrival of good weather, we can already prepare for summer…"

The Gedimat Fumay will be open Monday to Friday, from 7:30 AM to 11:45 AM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
