Fliesen Borchers Celebrates 60th Anniversary!

Fliesen Borchers: A Successful Family Business in Northern Germany

Whether new construction or renovation, at its Meppen location, Fliesen Borchers supports customers with expert knowledge and a large selection of samples.

Large-format tiles, modern showrooms, and extensive stock availability enable individual bathroom and room design with a wide selection of materials and professional advice.

Running a company in its third generation is a huge task, and even though the business has continuously evolved, one thing has remained the same: the mission to put the customer first. Jens Borchers says:

“I am proud and happy to be able to continue the company founded by my grandfather in his spirit. And even though we have grown over the years, we remain down-to-earth as we were at the beginning and always take care of every concern of our customers. Whether it’s a small or large order, our customers’ satisfaction is always our top priority.”

What Wasn’t Possible Before is Made Possible Today

Over the last 60 years, customers have had to deal primarily with one major change – the ever-increasing selection of materials. "Through modern manufacturing methods, everything is possible in ceramics today, both optically and in terms of design. The large formats up to 160 by 320 centimeters were unthinkable in the past," says Borchers.

And something else has changed: Six years ago, the entire office building in Neulehe was renovated, and there, across two floors, you can find a huge selection of tiles, plus an even larger warehouse.

The high-quality products from all renowned designers as well as affordable quality products promise innovative design.

In the showrooms in Meppen and Rhede, customers find not only XXL tiles but also a large selection of bathroom furniture and sanitary ceramics for holistic bathroom planning.

Borchers estimates it is likely one of the largest warehouses in Northern Germany, as around 70,000 square meters are always kept in stock there. This results in short distances for all customers, and the company can ensure fast and guaranteed delivery.

Three Generations, 60 Years, and Quite a Few Master Titles

The fact that all three generations hold the master title speaks to the craft tradition, even though today the focus is on competent specialist advice and inspiring showrooms. Tile-laying master Johann Borchers started in 1966 as a one-man operation with craftsmanship and a lot of dedication. He laid the foundation for everything that exists today. In 1985, Franz Borchers joined the company's management, and in 2000 he took over the business completely. The expansion to the Rhede location also occurred during his time.

In 2021, Jens Borchers, the founder's grandson, took over the management. He is a master tile, slab, and mosaic layer and also a trained wholesale and foreign trade merchant. For about 20 years, the focus has consciously been on showroom and consultation. The company's own installation service was discontinued back then, but the know-how remains in-house.

Former employee and site manager Winfried Helmerichs, who now runs his company Fliesen Helmerichs from the original headquarters in Neulehe, continues to carry out installation work upon request. It may seem almost curious that all three owners are master tile layers yet no installation is offered, but this allows the company to focus entirely on the theme of showrooms.

While in Neulehe, it's mostly regular customers who visit, in Meppen and Rhede there is a lot of walk-in traffic. The showrooms offer not only all kinds of tiles but also natural stone, borders, and mosaics. Alongside a wide selection of vinyl design floors, there is a large assortment of bathroom furniture and sanitary ceramics – enabling holistic bathroom planning. Tiles can be found in all variants and formats, whether trends or classics, small or large formats. Tiles from Spanish and Italian manufacturers in particular adorn the showrooms. The professionals from Fliesen Borchers also attend home shows and international trade fairs like Cersaie or Cevisama every year.
