Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) Chairman Chung Won-joo met with global architect Dominique Perrault to explore cooperation strategies.
Daewoo E&C announced on the 9th that Chairman Chung held a meeting and luncheon with Dominique Perrault, who was visiting South Korea, on the 8th. They discussed the future direction of the housing market and urban development both within South Korea and internationally.
Chairman Chung stated, "In South Korea, housing demand is continuously increasing, especially among the younger generation, but the supply of high-quality housing has not been sufficiently realized." In response, Dominique Perrault expressed empathy, saying, "France is facing housing shortage issues for young people, and Paris is also experiencing a severe shortage of housing supply."
Furthermore, Chairman Chung said, "If Daewoo E&C's reconstruction and redevelopment projects are combined with the design capabilities of 'Dominique Perrault Architecture (DPA)', it will be possible to enhance the competitiveness of domestic housing products." He added, "There is a need to graft global design capabilities into the urban development projects currently underway in countries like Vietnam and Indonesia."
Dominique Perrault responded, "As emerging cities in Asia are growing rapidly, urban design from a long-term perspective is important," showing his anticipation for promoting joint projects.
Dominique Perrault also introduced his major works and design philosophy. Perrault emphasized, "Architecture is not merely a structure; it is completed within its relationship with the surrounding environment," citing the Ewha Womans University ECC and the Yongsan (Long Island) project as examples. It was explained that, based on a design philosophy that emphasizes harmony between nature and architecture, he has simultaneously realized the public nature and sustainability of urban spaces.
