Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard has outlined the priorities for the second meeting to review the North American trade treaty, scheduled for Monday, April 20 in Mexico City.
During the summit with US delegate Jamieson Greer, the Latin American country's government will insist on the absence of customs tariffs and on strengthening production chains to replace Asian imports.
Ebrard reiterated the national position:
“We always raise the issue of the impact of the current tariffs, and Mexico has insisted a lot on this topic. We will reiterate it on Monday, also for the agricultural sector.”
The US representative will present his own proposals to the Mexican presidency. An act viewed positively by the minister:
"He was kind enough to come to present them to the president, it seems like an excellent gesture to me, it's not very frequent that they do so."
