Bisceglie – The preliminary investigations judge of the Trani court has ordered a custodial prison measure against a 46-year-old man originally from Acireale. The man is accused of robbing an acquaintance, a 50-year-old Bisceglie resident with a 100% severe disability. A brutal assault, aggravated by the victim's reduced capacity for defense, occurred in the first days of March.
According to findings by the Carabinieri, the victim was lured into a sort of trap under the pretext of having pizza with friends. The meeting took place at a 24-hour ATM on Via Imbriani, where the violent act by the perpetrator occurred. The man, with the support of his partner (present on site and already known to the victim), allegedly attacked the disabled man with extreme ferocity. The 50-year-old was grabbed by the arms, slapped, and finally slammed violently against a wall. During the assault, the 46-year-old from Acireale managed to seize his wallet, which contained part of his recently withdrawn disability pension (about 650 euros).
The images from the ATM's surveillance system were what incriminated the attacker. The footage clearly shows the stages of the crime: the man dragging the victim, hitting him, and finally fleeing with the money. Despite fear of retaliation, the victim found the courage to file a complaint with the Bisceglie Carabinieri station, confirming that the attacker knew about the pension withdrawal. The man was transferred to a custodial institution by the Carabinieri, where he will remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
