This IP licensing move signals a shift from material mimicry to cultural storytelling in tile design. For fabricators and specifiers, expect increased demand for custom sintered stone applications featuring branded motifs. Sourcing teams should note that licensed collections may carry premium pricing and stricter supply controls. Designers gain a new tool for themed residential or commercial spaces, but buyer risk includes potential IP expiration or market saturation.
When tiles meet Doraemon, what sparks will fly? Summit, a well-known brand of tiles in Foshan, has announced a strategic partnership with Doraemon, becoming the first tile brand to collaborate with a globally renowned anime and manga IP.
On July 21, the "Summit x Doraemon" strategic cooperation and sintered stone whole-house customization financial summit was grandly held at the Foshan Tanzhou Exhibition Hall. At the event, Summit officially announced it had secured the licensing rights for Doraemon. The "Summit Tiles x Doraemon Sintered Stone Theme Pavilion" also made its debut, inviting visitors to explore new materials and open up new perspectives.
Inside the "Summit Tiles x Doraemon Sintered Stone Theme Pavilion," various possibilities of integrating Doraemon elements into tiles and sintered stone were showcased. Whether it was floral-themed Doraemon transformations in home settings or blue-and-white themed Doraemon color schemes for home decor, the future development looks highly promising. A representative from Summit Tiles revealed, "Doraemon is a world-class classic IP. Their operations team is very serious, and the research process was extremely rigorous and meticulous."
"We aim to break the traditional product development model of imitating material textures by introducing IP culture, creating extraordinary experiences for consumers through design, products, and spatial culture," said Chen Fujun, Deputy General Manager of New Pearl Group's Marketing Center, General Manager of the Second Marketing Center, and General Manager of Summit Tiles. He added that the "Doraemon: Accompanying You" series has also been launched in the market, marking Summit's first foray into IP marketing.
Wu Wenli, President of the Zhanjiang Design Power Association, shared, "The creative product series of Doraemon provides designers with more inspiration and choices, allowing the design community to grow through more design options, achieving diversified operations, multifaceted development, and multidimensional transformation."
