Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “New Bathtubs: The Softest and Most Welcoming Geo”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

Designed with a focus on comfort, ergonomics, and ultra-high-performance materials, these bathtubs—often patented by industry companies—are made from ceramics and composite mixtures. They promote the concept of "democratic design" in the wellness space, presenting a series of projects that perfectly blend aesthetics, functionality, and quality.

The series presented by the company, which also includes a range of bathtubs, "is an example of how a unique and personal style can be achieved with simple means," commented the designer. "Our inspiration is drawn from two basic forms: the angle and the circle."

Duoform has a depth that allows for a water height of up to 40 centimeters. Original in its design and seductive in form, the baignoire is entirely made of Bestone, a mineral material that ensures a natural tactile sensation and an extra-matte finish. Versatile and modern, it can become the centerpiece of the bathroom when space allows, thanks to its free placement options, either freestanding or wall-mounted.

The elliptical shape makes its entrance into the bathroom, defining two symmetrical backrests. Drawing inspiration from nature, Dominik Tesseraux designed for the German company Bette a sculpture made from a special glazed titanium steel—thin, light, yet very resistant. Defined by a delicate and fluid line between the outer edge and the inner body of the tub, it appears to be sculpted by water. Freestanding or built-in, it integrates perfectly into the surrounding architecture.

Kaldewei's freestanding Classic Duo Oval bathtubs (also in the opening photo) were designed by Belgian designer Bertrand Lejoly. The soft volume, reminiscent of the curves of a high-sided basin, is made from DuraSolid, a mineral-based composite or solid surface material. Thanks to its durability and stability properties, it is particularly suitable for producing bathtubs and shower trays.

A Showcase Between Ceramics and Micro-Architectures

High sides, welcoming volumes, and (also) compact dimensions: this is how the bathtub is renewed—a precise and comfortable geometry that, in the rigor of the line or the sinuosity of the curve, has always accommodated body and mind in the domestic wellness oasis. What was once called a baignoire continues today to be the cradle of relaxation at the center of the hygiene room. Combining aesthetics and practicality, the 2021 collections that update the idea of the tub, following the footsteps of contemporary living, are a distillation of organic and soft silhouettes.

New bathtubs feature anti-slip and anti-wear properties, ensuring surfaces that are easy to clean and capable of preventing bacterial growth.

Laufen – Laufen Pro

Designed by Peter Wirz for the Swiss brand, the Laufen Pro collection is presented on www.laufen.it.

Antoniolupi – Colormood

Antoniolupi and Mario Ferrarini reinterpret the form and meaning of the ancient tub by creating Mastello, a bathtub with very contained dimensions that, at just 135 centimeters, can comfortably accommodate people over 195 cm tall. The novelty presented by the Florentine company lies in the use of the innovative Colormood material, which creates a pure, organic, and welcoming form, resulting in an extremely opaque, anti-fingerprint structure resistant to micro-scratches that does not reflect light and offers an exclusive velvety touch. www.antoniolupi.it

Ex.t – Nouveau

Nouveau, the bathtub with round and welcoming volumes by Ex.t, made from LivingTec and designed in 2020 by the all-female duo Paola Vella and Ellen Bernhardt, is enhanced with an elegant waterproof pastel pink linen shower curtain. Like the entire collection it belongs to, this new type of accessory recalls refined accents typical of Art Déco, transforming the suspended fabric into a play of symmetries and clear geometries. www.ex-t.com

Kaldewei – Classic Duo Oval

A splash of color enlivens the novelties of Kaldewei, available in a full range of modern two-tone versions. The enamel shades thus create harmonious or contrasting pictures that enrich the internal and external cladding of the oval, drawing from the chromatic palette of the Coordinated Colours Collection, which shades from Alpine white to matte Alpine white, from glossy black to matte lava black. www.kaldewei.it

Duravit Ag – D-Neo

With a length of just 160 centimeters, it creates the perfect scenario even in small bathrooms: it is the new center-of-the-room bathtub D-Neo, a novelty from Duravit Ag. www.duravit.it

Acquabella – Opal Quiz

Drawing hypnotic plays of geometric shapes across the entire surface, the finish that characterizes the new freestanding Opal Quiz bathtub is a mix of textures. With dimensions of 180 x 55 centimeters, the novel proposal from Acquabella envelops with its welcoming oval shape, characterized by the detail of a thicker rim designed to hold bottles or bathroom dispensers. Made from Akron, a special material patented by the company that combines the properties of polyurethane with mineral charges, it is a model resistant to impacts and wear, characterized by antibacterial and anti-slip properties. www.acquabella.com
