A lawsuit in which former construction workers sought compensation for health damage caused by asbestos at construction sites has been settled at the Osaka High Court.
Thirty people, including former construction workers, who claimed health damage from asbestos, had sought damages from 16 building materials manufacturers. The first trial (Kyoto District Court) ordered five companies to pay compensation.
A second trial was subsequently held at the Osaka High Court. Yesterday, on the 8th, a settlement was reached in which the five companies ordered to pay compensation in the first trial apologized to 25 former construction workers and agreed to pay a settlement amount of 330 million yen.
“(My husband) passed away, and this year marks exactly 12 years. I am able to report that the settlement has been reached, and I finally want to make it a form of interring his remains.”

On the other hand, the five people who were not covered by the compensation plan to appeal to the Supreme Court.
