Not Just Different: Toilet in Matte White

Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Not Just Different: Toilet in Matte White”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

In addition to the many color options available for ceramic sanitary ware today, white remains by far the most popular color. The matte white finish is a beautiful middle ground: it retains the classic and hygienic appearance of white, while the matte look keeps it trendy.

Over the past two years, the stylish matte white color has taken off in bathrooms worldwide. We also saw matte white come more to the forefront at the recent ISH trade fair. Matte white ceramic surfaces give the bathroom a luxurious, high-quality appearance. From now on, the Geberit AquaClean Sela shower toilet is also available in a trendy matte white version. Both the ceramic, the lid, and the toilet seat are finished in matte white.

The elegant new matte option for shower toilets complements Geberit's existing range of matte white ceramics and can be combined in various bathroom designs. Geberit now offers a series of matte white ceramics in the Geberit ONE and iCon series.

Special Ceramic Glaze

The matte finish of the ceramic is achieved through a special glaze, which Geberit calls Keratect. This glaze layer makes the surface extremely smooth and pore-free. But it's not just the glaze that's different; the developers have also adapted the seat to this trendy matte finish. Because the toilet seat and lid are made from a different material than the toilet ceramic, they reflect light differently. Geberit has precisely matched the color of the ceramic with the matte-lacquered toilet seat and lid. Extensive tests then ensured the surfaces are robust enough to resist stains and scratches.

The Geberit AquaClean Sela is now available in three different versions: white high-gloss with a chrome or white cover, and from April 1, 2023, in matte white. The Sela is the mid-range of three shower toilet models. The most basic is the Tuma, a variant where the technology is integrated into the seat. The Mera, the most luxurious, unlike the Sela, also includes a dryer and seat heating. All three shower toilets contain technology that cleans the lower body with water instead of paper.
