Hanil Cement Launches High-Performance Adhesive 'Hi-Poxy' for Large-Format Tiles

Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Hanil Cement Launches High-Performance Adhesive “, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

Hanil Cement announced on the 14th the launch of its new product 'Hi-Poxy,' a high-performance tile adhesive that maintains the adhesive strength of existing epoxy-based products while enhancing workability. Epoxy-based tile adhesives are known for their superior bonding strength compared to cement-based or acrylic bond adhesives, making them suitable for various tile installations. However, they have drawbacks such as a pungent odor and a short working time. Hi-Poxy, developed over approximately three years starting in 2022, addresses these shortcomings. It is odorless, providing a more pleasant working environment, and does not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause sick building syndrome, making it an eco-friendly option. It incorporates polymer components for high deformation resistance and is made from non-combustible materials, helping to prevent the spread of fire.

Hi-Poxy is a two-part product, consisting of one powder pack and one liquid can that are mixed before use. A key advantage over conventional epoxy adhesives is its longer working time. While typical epoxy adhesives must be used within 60 minutes, Hi-Poxy offers a working time of over 90 minutes, allowing for more meticulous installation. The product's technical excellence has been recognized, as it received a technology award at an academic presentation conference hosted by the Korean Society of Civil Engineers. Meanwhile, Hanil Cement has been increasing its research and development (R&D) budget annually to develop eco-friendly, high-quality products. According to the '2024 Hanil Sustainability Management Report' published by Hanil Holdings, last year's R&D expenses reached 3.9 billion won, an increase of 1.1 billion won from the previous year's 2.8 billion won.
