We will soon be saying goodbye to 2025. Welcoming the new year is not synonymous with leaving everything behind, as the saying goes. Rather, it is the best occasion to continue with all those things that have only brought success in the previous months. In terms of interior design, the trends of the last season have been marked by the incorporation of 'grandma's details,' alternatives to curtains, and the rise of maroon. Furthermore, new currents have been very focused on how to decorate walls and what methods to use, especially those that accompany the sofa or the headboard of the bed.

At Architecture and Design, we haven't missed a single 2025 trend for decorating walls. Throughout this time, we have talked about the return of wallpaper or the colors that have defined the most contemporary walls. Everything indicates that for 2026, many of the fashions that have stood out this year will remain in force, to the point that more than one will become established as a timeless style.

1. Fluting

A more elaborate way to do away with traditional paint and smooth textures is to opt for wooden slats. These coverings have become the great revelation of 2025, especially due to their ability to adapt to any space. We can see them on the TV wall, on the sofa wall, and as an alternative to typical headboards. In some houses, these add to the airy feel of the environments, replacing large load-bearing walls. The choice of slatting is perfect for adding another trend that has been a hit this year, such as the use of natural materials.

2. Varied Wallpaper

Covering walls with wallpaper and different vinyls is a classic solution that, to this day, remains so ingrained that it is still a trend. Among the novelties of this style, we have seen how geometric prints have reigned on walls with more modern touches. Diverse shapes and eclectic colors have come together in the most current designs, with the aim of giving a renewed air. On the other hand, with the rise of the grandmacore trend, we have seen how floral prints, typical of grandmothers, have made a grand comeback.

3. Classic Moldings

You can elevate the presence of a wall with a very traditional resource: the use of moldings. As 2025 has been marked by classic currents, walls have recovered this element, whose main purpose is to give relief and style to smooth walls. In recent seasons, we saw how minimalism took over this aesthetic, with discreet and not overly ornate designs. However, by implanting details from past eras again, such as the Victorian era, many walls gain very elaborate decorative motifs.

4. Natural and Sober Components

The most natural materials have been the priority in wall decoration for 2025. Apart from wood, there are even more manageable components to give an earthy and sober air to room environments. Clay is a rock that has great handling and authenticity, standing out because it never looks the same. On the other hand, lime mortar is another trend of the season, which aims to give walls resistance and grant them a warm air.

5. Dark Coverings

Those styles with softer tones have been set aside to embrace pieces with very consistent nuances, opting for dark wood coverings. Most walls incorporate this element in two ways: the first is through large, extensive panels placed close together. The second consists of fully integrating some storage furniture made of this component into the wall.
