Editor's Note
This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Explore this 3-bed open layout home with 3-car g”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.
When the Bailey Homes team built this three-bedroom home in the Oldham County Hamlet section of Norton Commons, their goal was to create a space made for the flow of daily life.
We wanted to (create) a ranch … that was really designed around everyday living, not necessarily just pretty in pictures. We wanted a single-story home that wasn’t too big, felt manageable, but was still great for entertaining.
said Jesse Stemle, owner and construction manager at Bailey Homes.
Though they were building it as a spec house, the team strived to create an abode that looked like anything but.
My goal was to create a space that just felt inviting for everyone who would walk in the door. (A home) that (had) neutral enough palette, but had enough design interest that it would feel special to the person that was going to purchase it. (I wanted it to feel) really personalized and custom.
said designer Katrina Moffett of KHM Interiors.
The result is a 2,253-square-foot space with an open floor plan, a private office, a covered porch, a three-car garage, a full basement, custom finishes, and engineered hardwood throughout.
Custom, cohesive kitchen
The kitchen is anchored by a hickory island boasting a warm, natural stain. Cream-colored cabinetry extends to the ceiling, while champagne bronze finishes and quartz countertops with soft gold veining tie everything together.
The countertop is marrying together the warmth of the paint color and the perimeter and the warmth of the island.
explained designer Katrina Moffett of KHM Interiors. She adds that the banding around the hood mirrors the hickory island, further enhancing the space's overall cohesion.
The room is, of course, both beautiful and functional. GE Café appliances are installed throughout, and the walk-in pantry offers floor-to-ceiling storage with countertop-height shelving, providing space to tuck away small appliances and other items.
The island's recessed seating area offers a natural gathering space that flows seamlessly into the dining area. A champagne bronze chandelier hangs above the dining table, complementing the lighting above the island and the rest of the kitchen fixtures.
The champagne bronze creates a high-end, warm, custom finish.
Moffett exclaimed.
Versatility and visual impact
In the main living space, 16-foot vaulted ceilings feature white oak beams and a wagon-wheel chandelier. The furniture — including a sofa, leather chairs, and a round, wooden coffee table — is centered around a fireplace with a marble herringbone surround.
Even if you took out all the furnishings, the details in the space are … really beautiful. There are so many different ways you could lay it out.
Moffett said, adding that the room allows for multiple configurations.
The room located just off the entry also offers flexible layout options. Currently set up as an office, the space could easily be used as a den or family room.
It features glass mullion doors that open to walls painted Sherwin-Williams Poetry Plum, a deep and moody purple hue with strong brown and gray undertones. On one wall, built-in storage sits to the side of the built-in desk, which is set against shiplap detailing.
The placement of the office is important because it … allowed us to create a foyer. So when you’re walking in, you’re not just walking into everything. … It gives you a little more privacy and separation from the street.
Stemle said.
Classic curb appeal
That thoughtful sense of arrival begins outside the home, with an exterior look that Moffett describes as classic and Cape Cod-esque.
I love the cedar shake (in the gable). I think it gave it some dimension.
she exclaimed.
She adds that the porch ceiling’s wood finish stands out against the black ceiling fans and the Homburg Gray siding.
It’s (a) greeny blue, and it sets itself apart. When you look down the street, it has a unique look to it.
she said of the Sherwin Williams hue.
The home also features a side porch, complete with a fireplace and space for an outdoor TV. Providing additional space for outdoor living and entertaining, the area boasts ample room for a dining table and multiple seating areas.
It’s not a very big house, but the entertainment space feels grand. That’s my favorite part about it.
