Traces of this ancient Roman villa were first discovered in 1922. According to research from that initial excavation, subsequent digging work over the following decades ended in failure. Work resumed only in 2019 but was halted again this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Just one week after restarting the excavation following the Italian government's lockdown easing measures, they finally succeeded in discovering the villa's floor tiles beneath the vineyard. The excavation team, composed of experts in archaeology, fine arts, and landscape preservation from the Verona region, has been working with the goal of "understanding the expansion and precise location of the ancient structure." According to the team, the tiles were found several meters below the surface of the vineyard.
The excavation team stated that significant time and resources were required for the dig, necessitating cooperation from the city authorities.

The city authorities plan to open this mosaic floor to the public in the future.
