Editor's Note
This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Shower Cabin, Emergency Exit Signs… Unusual Item”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.
The pop-up recycling shop at the Jean-Jaurès school in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique) had only been open for an hour, but it was already difficult to find certain items.
"All the desks and chairs have been sold,"
remarked a stunned Julien Miguel, who is in charge of the school building's rehabilitation for the city.
"There are still quite a few urinals left,"
joked one of his colleagues. That's right, it was possible to buy a urinal.
And that wasn't the only unusual item you could find at this big sale organized on Saturday, September 27. As you walk among the stalls, you come face to face with… a shower cabin. Selling price: €60.
"In the 1950s [when the school was built], it was mandatory for educational establishments to have a shower,"
explained Julien Miguel.
“That’s no longer the case today.”
Items That No Longer Meet Standards
A little further on, toilet bowls, washbasins, mixer taps, and water heaters are on display.
"These are things we couldn't install today because they no longer meet standards,"
noted the architect.
"But they are still perfectly functional for a private individual."
The tour continues when you come across rock wool ceiling tiles.
“We stripped everything out,”
said Céline Paillard, deputy for real estate heritage in Saint-Nazaire, with amusement.
On the electrical side, the Jean-Jaurès recycling shop was not lacking. You could find LED lights, but also, more surprisingly, electrical panels and even illuminated safety blocks used to indicate emergency exits.
"That's what I came looking for, but it's all already gone,"
sighed Alban, 26.
As you will have gathered, unusual also means coveted. But the beauty of recycling shops is that you often leave with things you hadn't planned to buy. Like a metal sports locker to decorate the living room or a wooden stage for karaoke nights.
