Bridges crossing the Hoeya River in the Ungsang district of Yangsan, Gyeongnam, are being transformed into scenic night spots with the installation of landscape lighting. Yangsan City announced on the 6th that it will complete the 'Hoeya Riverside Light Line and Bridge Underpass Cultural-Historical Space Creation Project' next week, having commenced trial operations alongside final construction work starting on the 1st. The project aims to improve the nighttime environment of the Hoeya River and the four administrative districts of the Ungsang branch office by installing landscape lighting under bridges along the Yangsan section of the river, creating spaces for night views as well as cultural and historical activities. The project cost is 3.5 billion won. To facilitate smooth progress, Yangsan City divided the entire section into four parts and installed various landscape lighting on 10 bridges. The bridges with lighting are Ssangheung Bridge, Mummyeong 1 Bridge, Naeyeon Bridge, Hoeyagang Bridge, Pyeongsan 2 Bridge, Pyeongsan 1 Bridge, Hosan Bridge, Bicycle Bridge, Yongam Bridge, and Dangchon Bridge.

The walls of the illuminated bridges have been adorned with mosaic tiles or picture tiles featuring local landmarks, transforming the dark underpass spaces into bright areas. These brightened spaces can also host small-scale performances like busking. Yangsan City plans to identify and rectify issues such as illumination levels during the trial operation running until the end of this month, before commencing full-scale operations next month. During the trial period, operating hours are from sunset to 11 PM. Under-bridge lighting operates from sunset to midnight, and from 4 AM to sunrise. Upon project completion, it will provide another attraction for the four districts of the Ungsang branch office, as well as a resting space for citizens taking walks. Previously, in February 2023, Yangsan City benchmarked Hongjechon in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul—a renowned nightscape spot—for this project, which is part of the Hoeya River Renaissance. Once neglected due to coverage projects, Hongjechon has gained popularity as a nightscape hotspot for young people following a restoration project that began in 2006.

That area features a 2-meter-wide, 690-meter-long 'Water Light Road' and a waterfront terrace (cafe). The Water Light Road, where light meets water flowing through the covered space, creates various beautiful scenes and has become a popular photo zone among young people.
A Yangsan City official said, "Once this project, along with the Jujin Light Park and on-street parking lot projects are completed, they are expected to serve as cultural, waterfront, and resting spaces for residents of the Ungsang branch office area."
