What Will Interiors Look Like in 2026? “We Must Forget Imitation Materials, They Are Like a Parody”

Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “What Will Interiors Look Like in 2026? “We Must “, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

Delavegacanolasso (AD100) advocates for truth and courage in spaces for 2026.

The essence of architecture lies, among other intentions, in respect for the place where it is located. From this thought, hundreds of options are born aimed at honoring spaces. This is the essence that nourishes the philosophy of the studio Delavegacanolasso, formed by Ignacio de la Vega and Pilar Cano-Lasso.

We asked one of our AD100 2026 about the direction of that narrative in a year in which, according to the studio, we will bet on truth in architecture and design, dispensing with those clichés we adopt unknowingly.

Ignacio de la Vega and Pilar Cano-Lasso of Delavegacanolasso: The Art of Fleeing from Fear

In 2026 we seek greater authenticity, to remove the mask, to reject the artificial in search of spaces with greater purpose. An approach that bets on eliminating everything we consider "false" or "imitative":

“The theme we have to forget is imitation materials, it’s like a parody: people have fake grass, they enter and touch a wood that is not wood, and we believe that materials have to be alive, that they show the passage of time,” Ignacio de la Vega from the Delavegacanolasso studio tells AD España.

A declaration of intent that invites embracing the authentic and betting on a brave approach, fleeing from that "goes with everything" that hides the fear of making mistakes. And color is often one of the main reflections: "Everything related to color, fleeing from neutral spaces, beige, gray, white colors," adds Pilar. "That predominates a lot, the fear colors, that they have to be for anyone and in the end what that does is that it has no personality. In this way, spaces will be more personal."

A vision that speaks of natural fibers, textures that narrate the history of spaces and the dignity of materials. And it is that in 2026, interior designers declare war on beige color and "faux" design, from "false Mediterranean" to imitation objects. It is a way of conceiving spaces more critically and consciously as a reflection of a society that seeks disconnection from screens, slow travel, and art with soul.

Echoes that we already discovered a few months ago in this Mediterranean-style country house on the outskirts of Madrid designed by Delavegacanolasso. A new refuge with nods to Coderch in its treatment of light as a way to bathe a space of 320 m2 of pure craftsmanship, two patios, a porch, and Madrid light entering when and where it should.

Another milestone is found in Fresno, one of the studio's iconic Tini prefabricated houses that connects the permanence of nature with the functionality and comforts of an urban house.

An oasis where color plays a leading role in the living-dining room in a bold way, defying the fears that in 2026 will be more redeemed by daring.

Our AD100 becomes the perfect shortcut to discover "what's cooking" in a world of design and interiors that this year seeks to be more truthful than ever.
