Kitchen Trends to Adopt in 2025, According to Experts

Editor's Note

This editor’s note highlights the key facts and market implications behind “Kitchen Trends to Adopt in 2025, According to Ex”, with emphasis on sourcing, product fit, fabrication, logistics, or buyer impact.

"We were used to seeing large industrial hoods in kitchens, then 'micro-hoods' and, more recently, hoods concealed in upper cabinets, or even integrated into the cooktop," explains Noam Dvir. "This gives the kitchen the appearance of a sophisticated joinery room." For the cooktop, architects recommend Pitt burners, which can be installed directly into the countertop, creating an uninterrupted and easier-to-clean surface.

Because our kitchens do much more than just feed us, this clean appearance allows the materials chosen for the space to play a key role in the design while promoting its flexibility. "New options in hardware and appliances allow the kitchen's functionality to be masked and turned into a backdrop for other uses," adds Lisa Odyniec, who has designed sliding doors in the counter and pocket doors to surround a coffee bar, while specifying touch-lock ovens and refrigerators to ensure continuity of the kitchen cabinets.

As homeowners continue to prioritize well-being throughout the house, designers are carefully selecting materials. Due to their ecological and durable qualities, natural or recycled surfaces are trending in 2025 kitchens. Their growing adoption is also paving the way for other materials that breathe and age over time.

“We love incorporating industrial materials like stainless steel into the design, along with a simple backdrop of monotone wood cabinets,” explains Noam Dvir. “I think steel gives the kitchen a workshop-like atmosphere, which is really fresh and modern. The Danish design company Vipp offers a superb aluminum kitchen with corrugated steel cabinet fronts, while the Italian kitchen manufacturer Abimis offers designers a range of powder coating colors to contrast with shiny steel surfaces.”

What about kitchen trends in 2025? In 2024, our kitchens became multipurpose spaces, whether for eating, gathering, or working. This year, expect a rise in custom layouts, elegant natural materials, and integrated appliances designed to meet specific lifestyle needs—because every family has its own requirements. More than ever, kitchens are adjusting to this desire for individuality.

“Our clients are looking for a more personal, perhaps more artisanal aesthetic, moving away from the futuristic seamless kitchen in favor of varied styles, including color palettes and natural materials,” explains Lisa Odyniec, co-founder of the San Francisco-based ES-LO Design Studio.

Members of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) share this view, stating that thoughtful designs that "prioritize functionality with a personalized touch" will be among the top trends for kitchens in 2025. This year, in line with major interior decoration trends, personality will certainly mark the design of this heart of the home, but the most important thing remains having a kitchen that perfectly meets the needs of its inhabitants. Here are some of the trends designers foresee in this personalized approach.

Hidden Kitchens

Although the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house, designers are seeing an increase in requests for concealment from homeowners.

“Ready-to-embed appliances, which disappear into cabinets, allow for a cleaner design, thus giving homeowners the opportunity to focus on more playful elements in the room, such as unique color accents, mixed and matched textures, and custom accessories that add character to the space,” explains interior architect Hilary Matt.

Noam Dvir, co-founder of the New York architecture and decoration agency BoND, notes that this trend extends beyond traditional refrigerators and dishwashers, to the stove.

Focus on Entertaining

As home-cooked meals continue to grow in popularity, kitchen trends for 2025 are leaning towards designs that favor hosting guests.

“Many people are cooking more and want their kitchen to be suitable for their guests,” explains Elizabeth Graziolo, architect and director of Yellow House Architects. “There is still strong demand for open kitchens, with spaces where family and friends can gather.”

Homeowners who prioritize multi-stage events may need a large kitchen island in an open space, connecting the living room and dining room, allowing guests to move from appetizers in the kitchen to dinner at the table, then to digestifs and conversation around the hearth. For frequent cocktail enthusiasts, it is becoming increasingly common to set up two kitchens: one at the front, with a bar, and one at the back, equipped with all the appliances needed for meal preparation.
