Hong Kong's humid climate makes bathrooms a prime mold hotspot. Did you know that stubborn grime on silicone edges and tiles doesn't require vigorous scrubbing?
Recently, a netizen shared a labor-saving mold removal method on Facebook: just use a common household cleaner and kitchen paper towels, apply a wet compress overnight, and the annoying black spots will be completely gone.
The post went viral, drawing praise from many netizens.

A netizen posted in the Facebook group "I Love PX Mart – Good Stuff Honestly Said" that after seeing others share the bleach + paper towel method for bathroom mold, they tried it themselves. After applying the compress for about two hours without scrubbing, most of the mold disappeared.
From the photos they shared, the mold on silicone edges and tile gaps was significantly reduced. They also noted that kitchen paper towels can be used with cleaners for mopping floors and wiping kitchen grime, exclaiming, "I feel like I should have discovered this sooner."
The post sparked many positive reactions: "You can cut them into strips for wet compresses on tile gaps — better results and more economical"; "When applying, I use disposable chopsticks to hold the paper, so it doesn't hurt my hands"; "I've tried some mold removers that didn't work — maybe I bought the wrong ones — but bleach wet compresses are clearly powerful."
“Bleach is versatile and cheap. No need to sort many cleaners — it’s very useful. For less severe mold, sodium percarbonate (which has many uses, like degreasing and color brightening) can also be used as a wet compress, and it won’t irritate your hands.”
“This trick is amazing! A single overnight compress even cleaned decades-old mold in old houses.”
“I’ve tried wet compresses with various paper types — paper towels are the least likely to tear and easy to fold, fitting perfectly along corner edges and tile grooves.”
“Disposable face towels also work well and don’t tear easily.”
“So they can also be used as dusting cloths! Learned something new!”
“For a stronger effect, mix in hydrogen peroxide — that’s basically the main ingredient in Mr. Clean’s formula.”
“The compress works great, but the smell of bleach is really awful.”
Some netizens also shared their own mold removal tips: "Aren't there mold removers on the market now? Just spray directly on the moldy area, and it cleans up instantly. The key is not to let it touch water, or the effect will be reduced."
“Mr. Clean is really powerful! Once you use it, you never go back.”
“Miao’s mold killer only takes 5 minutes.”
“I use another brand’s mold removal gel. Apply it to the gaps, wait 2 hours, rinse and scrub — it’s super clean. No need for an overnight compress, and no wasted paper towels.”
