After a pilot project, the city of Solothurn is continuing its daytime shelter offer for people with addiction disorders. The container on Dornacherstrasse will resume operations on April 28, as the city administration announced on Tuesday. The city operates this service together with the association 'Perspektive Region Solothurn-Grenchen'. It is intended to provide affected individuals with a protected daytime space supervised by social workers. It is open on three days per week in the mornings, before the contact and drop-in center at the Adler opens.
The offer is part of the security measures package approved by the municipal council in February 2026. The pilot project in the summer of 2025 showed a clear need for supervised daytime facilities in public spaces, according to the city's press release. Usage was correspondingly high.
On average, around 26 people came per day, with over 500 visits counted in total. The city had initially expected about 10 to 15 daily contacts, as stated in an earlier city announcement.
